National Teachers Award 2026 was presented on National Teachers Day at the Science Bhavan in New Delhi. The President, Droupadi Murmu, conferred the honor on 2 teachers from Uttarakhand. Manisha Nigam, a teacher at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal Central University, was selected by the Ministry of Education’s Higher Education division for the National Award to Teachers, making her one of 21 teachers chosen from across the country. The award recognizes excellent contributions in higher education and includes a certificate, a silver medal, and ₹50,000.
Gabbar Singh Bisht, principal of Government Senior Secondary School Musyakhanda in Pauri district, is the lone Uttarakhand recipient in the school education category. He has been serving at the Musyakhanda school since 2003. Bisht has introduced innovations to provide quality education to students in remote areas, simplifying subjects like mathematics and science. He has leveraged digital platforms, information and communication technology (ICT), e-content, and Google Meet to enhance learning, and played a key role in continuing online classes during the COVID-19 lockdown. Earlier, he has received the Governor’s Award and the Shailesh Matiyani Award for his work.
The National Teachers Award to Teachers scheme acknowledges sustained excellence in teaching across disciplines, with the Award comprising a certificate, a silver medal, and a monetary prize.
