Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya has ordered immediate repairs and service improvements along the route to Yamunotri Dham after inspecting the approximately 5-km pedestrian stretch on Sunday. The review focused on safety, sanitation, healthcare and facilities used by pilgrims and pack animals.
The inspection comes ahead of an expected increase in pilgrim numbers after the monsoon. Arya reviewed the condition of railings, retaining walls, cleanliness arrangements, drinking-water points, medical services and other facilities along the track and at its stopping points.
Repairs and sanitation measures
After finding damaged railings and a wall beside the route, the District Magistrate directed the Public Works Department’s superintending engineer, Vijay Kumar, to arrange repairs without delay. He said safety arrangements could not be neglected when the number of visitors is likely to rise during the second phase of the pilgr.
The district administration also addressed waste and animal waste along the route and at halts. The district panchayat and Sulabh International were instructed to maintain regular cleaning. Officials were told to repair toilets, ensure adequate water and continue sanitation work.
Facilities used by horses and mules were included in the review. Authorities were directed to keep their feeding-area sanitation in order and maintain arrangements for hot water.
Medical and emergency readiness
Arya asked officials to keep doctors, medicines and First Medical Responder camps operational along the pilgrroute. Doors at damaged camps must be replaced immediately, according to the directions issued during the inspection.
The administration also ordered adequate machinery and personnel to remain deployed at Syanachatti, Paligad, Silaiband and Aujari. These arrangements are intended to support work and route management as the pilgrenters a busier phase.
