Lumpy Skin Disease awareness and prevention measures have been stepped up across Uttarakhand after reports of symptoms in cattle in some plain districts. The department is running a comprehensive campaign aimed at treating sick animals, vaccinating healthy ones, and spreading awareness among livestock owners.
In Rudraprayag district, officials have organized almost twenty vaccination teams. These teams are conducting village-level visits to vaccinate cattle, distribute medicines, and raise awareness about the disease, its transmission, and preventive practices. A rural awareness camp was held in Basti village led by the Veterinary Officer, with vaccinators and field staff in attendance. About 35 livestock owners participated, and around 92 cattle were given medicines during the event. Additionally, around 70 cattle were vaccinated through house-to-house visits.
The Chief Veterinary Officer noted that 16 veterinary hospitals in the district have formed teams to continue village outreach. Alongside vaccination, teams are distributing pesticides, parasite control agents, immunity boosters, and other essential medicines. Following directives from the administration, municipal authorities have been instructed to conduct pesticide spraying and fogging in their jurisdictions as part of the containment measures.
