A man seriously injured himself by setting his clothes and body on fire at a police station in Roorkee’s Luxor area on Tuesday evening, amid a dispute involving 30 lakh and a land transaction. The incident took place at about 5:30 AM PM at the Kotwali.
Police said Narayan, also known as Neetu, a resident of Mundakhera Khurd village, arrived on a motorcycle. After crossing the station gate, he parked the vehicle on the left side. Investigators said he had already poured a flammable substance over himself before reaching the premises.
Narayan reportedly lit a match immediately after getting off the motorcycle. Constables Manoj Malik and Arvind Rawat rushed towards him when they saw the flames. They used a custody blanket to put out the fire.
He was taken without delay to the Luxor Community Health Centre, where doctors provided initial treatment. The medical team found that he had suffered burns covering more than 60% of his body. Because of his serious condition, he was referred to AIIMS Rishikesh.
