Traffic congestion around Kainchi Dham is stretching the journey from Almora to Haldwani to up to 12 hours, according to the Almora unit of the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD). The party said the delays are affecting movement across the hills and the supply of essential goods.

The disruption has reportedly affected deliveries of ration, fruit and vegetables to Almora, Ranikhet, Someshwar, Bageshwar, Kapkot, Thal, Pithoragarh, Didihat and areas of Garhwal. The UKD also said travel linked to healthcare services has become difficult.

UKD’s demands

The UKD has called for a permanent arrangement to manage the congestion. Its demands include online booking for darshan and a shuttle service from Haldwani.

The party said these measures could reduce the number of vehicles travelling towards Kainchi Dham and help keep traffic moving. The meeting was attended by central secretary Trilok Singh Latal, district president Dinesh Joshi, city president Mohit Sah, Sujit Tamta, Akshay Kumar, Dheeraj Bhainsora, Kamal Singh, Vijay Pant, Deepak Singh and Sujar Bora, along with other workers.
