A man accused of impersonating a Railway Protection Force (RPF) assistant security commissioner was caught near the Lachhiwala flyover in Doiwala, police said. He was travelling in a hired car fitted with a blue beacon and allegedly used the appearance of an officer to exert influence.
The car had no number plates at either the front or rear. Instead, a paper slip bearing a number had been placed where the registration plates should have been. An RPF-badged cap was also recovered during a search of the vehicle.
How the RPF team reached the spot
Rakesh Gusain, the inspector in charge, said RPF Dehradun inspector Pankaj Kumar received information about a dispute near the flyover. A truck driver and a Hydra operator were reportedly refusing to load railway material and were asking for the required documents.
Inspector Kumar reached the location with an RPF team. They found driver Awadhesh Kumar, a resident of Bijnor, in the vehicle. Smit Kumar, a resident of Shivala Kala in Bijnor, was seated in the rear.
During questioning, Smit Kumar allegedly introduced himself as an RPF assistant security commissioner ed in the Moradabad division. The team became suspicious of his claim and questioned him further.
According to the police account, he then admitted to posing as a fake officer to make money. He allegedly told the team that he had bought the RPF cap from a market in Dehradun and had booked the car on rent.
FIR registered against 2 people
The RPF team took Smit Kumar and Awadhesh Kumar, along with the car, to the police station on Thursday evening. Police registered a First Information Report against both men on the basis of a written complaint.
The available report identifies the police case and the allegations but does not state that a court has found either accused guilty. Further action will follow the police investigation and legal process.
