In Dehradun, the administration is adopting a firm stance against river pollution caused by waste dumping, with cases to be registered against violators. The district administration has issued directives to enforce solid waste management guidelines and to prevent any unchecked dumping along riverbanks.
To strengthen enforcement, all urban local bodies are ordered to regularly inspect dumping yards within their jurisdictions and promptly identify unauthorized sites. The authorities will hold the responsible agency accountable for any lapses and ensure that no illegal dumping occurs within the city limits.
A safety and monitoring system along river edges will be enhanced by installing protective fencing at locations prone to waste dumping. Regular oversight of septic tank cleaning operations will be conducted, and septic tank effluent must be treated through an appropriate STP before disposal.
In a move to improve implementation, a dedicated cell has been formed to ensure compliance with Supreme Court directives on solid waste management. The cell’s reports and copies of court directions have been distributed to elected representatives across municipal bodies and district councils for transparency and accountability.
