Rudrapur won the district-level junior girls’ kabaddi championship after defeating Kulkha Stadium 36-26 in the final at Sakainiya Stadium, Gadarpur, on Sunday. The tournament was organised by the Kabaddi Association Udham Singh Nagar.
9 teams from across the district participated in the competition. The participating areas included Khatima, Shakti Farm, Kashipur, Bajpur, Rudrapur and Gadarpur. Around 100 players took part in the event.
Rudrapur beats Khatima in semifinal
Kulkha Stadium reached the final after a 31-14 victory over Shakti Farm Sitarganj in the first semifinal. Rudrapur then secured its place in the title match by defeating Khatima 33-15 in the second semifinal.
In the final, Rudrapur produced a strong performance to overcome Kulkha Stadium by 10 points. The 36-26 win gave Rudrapur the district championship.
Players selected for state competition
Players selected through the district competition will represent Udham Singh Nagar at the state-level kabaddi competition in Kaladhungi. The state event is scheduled for 19 and 20 September.
The tournament was inaugurated by former district panchayat member Jitendra Sharma and Major Singh, an office-bearer of the Kabaddi Association Udham Singh Nagar. District secretary Brajesh Kumar Dubey conducted the programme.
Gaurav Upadhyay, Sandeep Kumar, Vishal Kumar, Shalini Arya, Vimal Pandey and Ashiq Ali served as referees during the competition.
