A dispute erupted at the Agricultural Produce Market Committee complex as adhatias and farmers voiced strong opposition to the occupation of a government warehouse space. Leaders of the Adhatias Association and the Bharatiya Kisan Union led the rally and sit-in, articulating discontent with the administration of the mandi.
Participating demonstrators included leaders from the Vegetable Market Association and a number of farmers and traders, among them Rajiv Midda (Vegetable Market Association President) and Salvindar Singh Kalsi (Punjab/State-level leader) as noted in the crowd list.
Mandi Secretary Vishwavi Dev Singh responded to the charges by stating that the arrangement was made to increase the mandi’s income through a transparent tender process, and that the construction and occupancy of the shops did not involve any irregularities. He emphasized that the warehouse was leased on a monthly basis and that the process followed established norms. The secretary asserted that the allegations of impropriety were baseless and insisted the tendering was conducted properly to maximize revenue for the mandi.
