Weather conditions changed across Pithoragarh on Sunday as heavy rain swept the district headquarters and several other areas, while snowfall returned to the high-altitude Adi Kailash and Nabhidhang regions. The rain and snow caused temperatures to fall sharply in the upper Himalayan areas.

More than 100 travellers visited the Om Parvat area on Sunday, when conditions remained favourable from the morning until early afternoon. Light snowfall began later in the day, according to Narendra Bisht, manager of KMVN Nabhidhang.

Snowfall follows changing weather

The Adi Kailash and Nabhidhang areas have experienced fluctuating weather for the past 3 to 4 days. Sunny spells have repeatedly been followed by snowfall, creating rapidly changing conditions along the Adi Kailash and Kailash Mansarovar travel route.

Bisht said the weather around Om Parvat was good until the afternoon, allowing more than 100 travellers to view the mountain. Light snowfall started after 4:00 PM and continued into the night.

He said that if the snowfall continued until late at night, Nabhidhang could have more than one feet of snow by Monday. The statement was based on the weather conditions observed on Sunday.

Rain reported in Kuti village

Light snowfall also began in the Adi Kailash area after Sunday afternoon, according to Kunwar Kutiyal, a homestay operator in Kuti village. The village, located at 12303 feet, received intermittent light rain from the afternoon.

The change in weather has also affected lower areas of the district. While the upper Himalayan region saw snowfall and a sharp temperature drop, mornings and evenings remained cold in the lower parts of Pithoragarh as well.

The weather conditions may affect people travelling through the Adi Kailash and Nabhidhang route, particularly as snowfall continues to alternate with clearer spells. The next reported development is whether the snowfall persists through the night and how much snow is present by Monday.

Conclusion

Pithoragarh saw heavy evening rain while snowfall returned to Adi Kailash and Nabhidhang. More than 100 travellers visited Om Parvat before conditions changed, and continued snowfall could leave more than one feet of snow in Nabhidhang by Monday.
