Unknown thieves allegedly broke the lock of a house in Maheshpura, Bajpur, on Sunday night and took about 70 thousand rupees in cash and 200 grams of silver jewellery. The family discovered the theft after returning home on Monday morning.
Kamal Chandra’s house was undergoing floor construction. He had gone to sleep at neighbour Satpal’s house with his wife Rajni and their children. During the night, the thieves broke the main gate lock and took the valuables from a cupboard.
The family returned at about 6:00 AM and found household items scattered. Rajni said they had received 36 thousand rupees from a committee last month and had also saved pending wages for repairs to the house.
Police investigation
Police from the Doraha outinspected the house and questioned nearby residents. Outin-charge Devendra Mehta said officers were searching for the thieves and expected to catch them soon.
