The Uttarakhand Special Task Force has arrested Farukh in the investigation into the alleged smuggling of prohibited Tramadol capsules in Haridwar. His arrest brings the total number of accused arrested in the case to 5.
Farukh is a resident of Bharapur village, which falls under the Bahadrabad police station area. The STF and Anti-Narcotics Task Force are pursuing action against suspected drug traffickers as part of the campaign to make Uttarakhand free from narcotics.
18,000 capsules seized in May
In May 2026, a joint team of the STF and Mangalore Kotwali police seized 18,000 prohibited Tramadol capsules in the Mangalore area. A case was registered at Mangalore Kotwali under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
The investigation was later transferred to the Dehradun STF. The case now includes both the original seizure and the wider alleged supply chain identified during the inquiry.
According to the investigation, Ankit Kumar Prajapati had allegedly been receiving Tramadol capsules from co-accused Sachin Manihal since January 2026. The capsules were then allegedly supplied in Haridwar and nearby areas.
Investigators said money from the alleged operation was distributed after a commission was deducted. The remaining amount was reportedly sent onward through cash payments and bank accounts.
STF examining wider network
The investigation also identified the alleged roles of Salman, Farukh and other people. The STF said Farukh’s suspected involvement relates to the illegal supply of the capsules and the seizure of 18,000 capsules in May.
Police said Section 111 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita was added after evidence allegedly indicated that the activity involved an organised drug-trafficking group. The section was added in addition to the case registered under the NDPS Act.
SSP STF Ajay Singh said investigators were examining the accused person’s upstream and downstream contacts, bank accounts, financial transactions and digital evidence. The inquiry is intended to establish the full network linked to the alleged supply operation.
Singh said other people involved in the activity would be identified and action would be taken against them. The available information does not establish a court finding of guilt against any accused person.
Conclusion
Farukh’s arrest is the fifth arrest in the Haridwar-area Tramadol investigation. The Dehradun STF is continuing to examine the alleged supply chain, financial links and digital evidence before deciding further action.
