A coordinated inspection was conducted in Haridwar as preparations for Kumbh Mela 2027 intensify. The team, under the leadership of the Chief Development Officer, reviewed several bridges currently under construction to strengthen connectivity between key routes and melt traffic pressures expected during the festival.
The first site surveyed was the double-lane bridge coming up on the Khadkhari cremation ground approach, replacing the existing approach road. The project is valued at approximately 13.22 crore rupees, and officials evaluated the construction status, materials, quality, and adherence to standards. Directions were given to advance the work at a faster pace to prevent traffic disruptions during Kumbh.
Next, officials visited the Dakshin Dweep to Bairagi Camp connection, where a new 60-meter, BO-steel girder, double-lane bridge is being built downstream of an existing canal. The project costs around 12.46 crore rupees. The bridge is viewed as critical for linking Dakshin Dweep with the Bairagi Camp area, improving route reliability.
The inspection also covered a 60-meter span prestressed RCC bridge over the Pathri Rao river on the route from Jalapur to EIDgah, Subhash Nagar PAC, and Shivalik Nagar. This project’s cost is about 9.67 crore rupees. Officials emphasized timely completion.
Across all sites, the need to maintain high-quality construction was stressed. Officials were reminded that bridges, being critical infrastructure, must meet defined technical standards and safety norms. A third-party agency will conduct regular quality checks, and any negligence by that agency will invite disciplinary action as per government directives.
The goal of these inspections is to ensure stronger connectivity before Kumbh Mela 2027, reducing traffic presses and improving pilgrim movement. Official remarks underscore ongoing supervision across departments to sustain steady progress and address delays swiftly.
Participants in the field included representatives from the Garhwal Division Commissioner’s office, Kumbh Technical Cell, Irrigation Department, and Public Works Department, with engineers and officials from respective agencies present at the sites.
