Students from across Almora district gathered at Arya Kanya Inter College for a science seminar focused on India’s future energy needs. Garima Papnoi won the competition, while Gitanjali Tiwari finished second. Both will now represent Almora in the state-level contest.

The programme was held on Monday under the theme “Indian Energy Basket 2047: Possibilities and Challenges”. Participants discussed the future of energy, renewable sources and related challenges. Students from different development blocks took part in the district-level event.

Results and state-level selection

Garima Papnoi, representing Bonafide Public School in Chaukhutia, secured the top position. Gitanjali Tiwari of Government Inter College Khoot came second, while Ayushman Thapa from Wisdom Convent High School, Chaukhutia, finished third.

The first- and second-place winners have been selected to represent Almora at the state-level competition. The event therefore provided both district recognition and a route for the leading participants to present their ideas at the next stage.

Students were assessed on their understanding of the subject, scientific accuracy, presentation skills and reasoning. The judging panel comprised Dr Prabhakar Joshi, Pankaj Joshi and Dr Deep Joshi.

Officials highlight scientific thinking

Chief Education Officer Harak Ram Kohli said strengthening the country’s energy future would require scientific thinking and greater support for new technology. He urged students to apply science beyond classroom learning and use it to address everyday problems.

Principal Deepti Shah said the seminar gave students a platform to display their abilities and express their views on scientific subjects. District Science Coordinator Vinod Kumar Rathore said participants who had secured the first or second position in their respective development blocks joined the district competition.

Rathore also underlined that energy conservation is as important as ensuring energy availability and using it properly. The programme was attended by block science coordinators, mentor teachers and students.
