Dense daytime congestion on the Gangotri Highway is a growing problem for residents in Uttarkashi’s urban zones, including उजेली-लक्षेश्वर, ज्ञानसू, and the district headquarters. Large trucks and loaders contribute to frequent jamming on the highway during the day, even as school buses and other vehicles park along the roadway in several neighborhoods. Narrow streets and insufficient parking infrastructure amplify the problem, and police and administrative authorities have not yet rolled out a solid traffic plan for these corridors. Residents report that parked vehicles along the roadside are a major trigger for jams in areas like ज्ञानसू, bus stand, भटवाड़ी रोड, उजेली, and लक्षेश्वर. The lack of dedicated parking for school buses forces drivers to halt on the road, further obstructing flow. With rising vehicle numbers and limited city-space, congestion has become a daily nuisance. Police and municipal leaders have not announced a concrete strategy to widen lanes or optimize parking in these tight streets. C.O. Janak Singh Panwar notes that large trucks are routed away from the city center through the Menera bypass due to active landslides, indicating ongoing safety considerations in the core traffic management plan. City authorities say a review will be conducted of all jam-prone zones to restore smoother traffic movement.
