A district-level wrestling competition and trials were held at Nehru National Inter College on Saturday, bringing together students from secondary and basic schools across the district. The event featured suspense-filled bouts that highlighted the talent pool in Roorkee and neighboring blocks. Athletes from Godhampur, Bahadarabad, Laksar, Roorkee, Narasan and Khanpur blocks took part, competing under the supervision of appointed referees and officials to ensure fair play.
The district sports coordinator, Gajendra Singh, announced the winners across different age groups who will represent Roorkee district at the upcoming state-level secondary school wrestling championship in Haridwar. For girls, under-14 selections include Rahnuma, Priya, Divyanshi and Asma, while under-17 features Suhana, Muskan, Vanshika, Ankit Lohani, Mansi Rathi, Arya Javla, Vedika, Nisha Bhardwaj and Aaradhya Giri. In under-19, Sara and Sidhhi Singh earned slots.
In the boys’ categories, under-14 selections include Rana, Ayush, Avish Chaudhary, Rishabh Kashyap, Nishant, Anant Sallar, Daksh Royal, Harshvardhan Bansal and Virat. Under-17 selections include Rihan, Tanishk, Nisheal, Arish Balayan, Faruk and Niraaj, while under-19 list features Azeez Hasan, Kartavya Chaudhary, Rihan, Rajveer Singh and Niraj.
Members and officials present on the occasion included Manjit Rana, Rajiv Chaudhary, Santaram, Alok Singh, Preeti Saini, Basic District Sports Coordinator Anjesh Kumar, Sudhir Saini and Ajay Sharma, among others.
