Police in Dehradun have registered a case against 8 people following allegations that a 76-year-old woman was deceived into signing a power of attorney, leading to the sale of her house and the occupation of her vacant land.
The case was filed by Dalanwala police after the woman, Kusum Panwar, approached Senior Superintendent of Police Premendra Doval. The allegations concern property on Sevak Ashram Road in Karanpur and a vacant plot measuring 64 square feet.
Alleged use of power of attorney
Panwar, a resident of Bengali Kothi on Doon University Road, told police that she had developed a family acquaintance with Amandeep Singh of Hoshiarpur, Punjab. She alleged that he gained her confidence and accompanied her to the Dehradun sub-registrar’s office on 20 December 2023.
According to her complaint, she had gone there to register one of her plots. She alleged that Amandeep, through his lawyer, obtained her signatures not only on the sale documents but also on a power of attorney that had allegedly been prepared in advance without her knowledge.
The complaint alleges that this power of attorney was later used to execute the sale deed for Panwar’s house on 3 July 2024. The house, located on Sevak Ashram Road, was valued at about 85 lakh and was sold in the name of neighbour Sonia Chaudhary.
Panwar alleged that Amandeep took the sale proceeds. Sonia’s husband, Arvind Singh, and Mohan Singh of Sarkhet in Maldevta were named as witnesses in the transaction, according to the complaint.
Separate allegation over vacant land
The complaint also alleges that the Saxena family, who live nearby, occupied Panwar’s 64-square-foot vacant land after preparing a forged agreement. She said that when the occupation was opposed, graphs of the alleged agreement were sent to her children by mobile phone.
Panwar further alleged that her children were abused and threatened. The complaint also states that the accused referred to their influence in the government and administration while allegedly intimidating her.
She had previously submitted complaints in May and August 2025, but alleged that no action followed. She then submitted another application to the SSP, after which Dalanwala police registered the case.
Police investigation underway
The 8 named accused are Amandeep Singh, Sonia Chaudhary, Arvindr Singh, Mohan Singh, Neelam Saxena, Anoop Saxena, Kartik Saxena and Umang Saxena. Police registered the case under provisions related to alleged forgery and fraud.
Inspector Vinod Gusain said the matter was being investigated. The registration of the case records the allegations and does not establish guilt. Further findings will depend on the police investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
Conclusion
Dalanwala police are investigating allegations that a deceptive power of attorney was used to sell a 85 lakh house and that forged documents were used to occupy 64 square feet of vacant land belonging to the complainant.
