A national-level mushaira and Akhil BharatiyaKavi Sammelan unfolded at the Uttarakhand Journalists’ Club hall in Dehradun, marking the launch of Pain Garhwali’s fifth ghazal collection, “Dard Garhwali ki Sau Ghazlen.” The Suhan–Faham organization organized the event, which drew poets from various parts of the country who presented ghazals that addressed social, political, and personal sensitivities with clarity and incisive wit.
The program began with a ceremonial lamp lighting by chief guests, followed by the unveiling of the ghazal collection. Several speakers praised Garhwali’s work for its frank portrayal of societal incongruities and its blend of affectionate and satirical tones. In the mushaira segment, poets offered ghazals that touched on themes of love and societal critique, generating enthusiastic responses from the audience.
Among the featured voices, the work of senior poet Naveen Nir drew particular acclaim for lines such as, “His/her empathy moves me to tears, I become tearful and let it flow,” which received strong audience appreciation. The collection also includes the couplet, “Mother’s blessing kept the home intact, but when she left, it was as if the roof collapsed,” which was warmly received by listeners. Other contributors included Abdul Qayum Bismil, Zikr-i-Guhaar, Parmvir Kaushik, Jigar Deobandi, and Shivcharan Sharma Muftar, who each presented ghazals that enriched the evening.
The event underscored the enduring appeal of ghazal poetry in regional and national circles, while showcasing Garhwali literature’s resonance with contemporary social realities.
