In Almora’s Dhaolchhina district, authorities responded after a complaint about housing at risk from ground subsidence in the Sag bada block of the Diyari gram panchayat. SDM Sanjay Kumar conducted a field check and ordered precautionary measures. 8 families were relocated to relatives’ homes, while 5 others were moved to the Diyari primary school for safety. Subsidence had caused the earthen ground at the Bakhli Angan of Sag bada to cave in by 4 to 5 feet, creating danger to nearby houses. Residents lived in fear as officials assessed the site and prepared relief measures.
On Friday, following the SDM’s directives, thirteen families were shifted to temporary, safer locations. Of these, 8 sought shelter with relatives and 2 stayed at the Diyari primary school. Officials distributed compensation totaling 6,500 per affected family. Local worker Vinay Kiraola of the UKD party and others visited the village to check on residents’ welfare and needs.
The administration has ordered timely relief and rehabilitation actions, with revenue and tehsildar officials actively coordinating the response.
