Police in Dehradun district have arrested 2 people, including a woman, in separate drug-related operations in Rishikesh and Vikasnagar. Officers reported recovering 2 kilos 790 grams of ganja and 464 grams of charas in the 2 cases.

The action was carried out as part of a district-wide campaign against the trafficking and sale of drugs, launched on the instructions of the Dehradun senior superintendent of police, according to police.

Ganja recovered in Rishikesh

On 5 November, police were checking an area near the Chandrabhaga river in a slum settlement under Rishikesh Kotwali. During the operation, officers arrested Sabri Devi, 40, who lives in the slum settlement at Mayakund.

Police said they recovered 2 kilos 790 grams of ganja from her possession. A case was registered under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

Charas found in Vikasnagar

The second operation took place in Bhojawala, within the jurisdiction of Vikasnagar Kotwali. Police stopped a Swift car during checking and searched the vehicle.

Officers said they found 464 grams of charas in the possession of Pradeep alias Sonu, 45, who was travelling in the car. He was arrested, and the vehicle was seized because police said it had been used to transport the charas.

According to the police account, Pradeep told investigators that he had purchased the charas from a local trafficker in Mirzapur. Police said he was preparing to sell it at high prices to people addicted to drugs in Dehradun.

Police also found that Pradeep had previously been sent to jail in an NDPS Act case in 2019. The investigation in both cases is continuing, and the allegations remain subject to the legal process.

Conclusion

The 2 separate operations resulted in the arrest of Sabri Devi and Pradeep alias Sonu, with police reporting the seizure of 2 kilos 790 grams of ganja, 464 grams of charas and a Swift car. Further action in both cases is pending investigation.
