The National Tiger Conservation Authority has approved Corbett National Park’s proposal to relocate 5 more tigers to Rajaji National Park. Wildlife veterinarians will identify and tranquilise the animals before their transfer in specialised vehicles. The move comes as Corbett holds more than 260 tigers and Rajaji works to strengthen tiger numbers in selected areas.

A monthly food distribution organised by Shyam devotees at Khatima’s main intersection on Tuesday drew a large number of people, who received prasad. Held on Ekadashi, the event was arranged through Shri Radha Rani Rasoi and attended by Khatima Municipality chairperson Ramesh Chandra Joshi and other participants.

Haridwar police have arrested a husband and wife in connection with the killing of Gopal Kumar, whose body was found near Dudhiya Band Basti on 17 September. Police allege that the murder followed pressure linked to a relationship, threats and a dispute involving the woman’s family.

Residents of Bisabajed in Pithoragarh’s Munkot block say a leopard has attacked several goats in recent days. Fear has spread among villagers who collect fodder and take livestock towards forest areas. They have asked the Forest Department to address the threat and help restore safety in the area.

A 40-year-old man, identified as Vikas Batra, died after a truck hit him while he was crossing a road near Jafarpur in Rudrapur’s Dineshpur police station area. Police took the truck into custody after local people stopped it near Tel Mill Chowki, but the driver escaped and remains the subject of a search.

Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) workers held a sit-in at Khatima tehsil on Tuesday over problems in Muslim-majority areas. Police stopped the group at a barricade, leading to a heated exchange. After discussions with officials, party representatives reached Tehsildar Virendra Sajwan and submitted a memorandum addressed to the SDM.
