4 students from Shaheed Hari Kishan Shikshan Sansthan in Ashok Farm, Khatima, have earned selection for a state-level swimming meet after strong results at the district competition. Sarvodaya and Neeraj won their respective events, while Ashu and Sunil finished third in the 100-metre category.

Employees at Uttarakhand Roadways’ Pithoragarh depot have reportedly gone without salary for 3 months, while shortages of tyres and spare parts have left several buses in the workshop. Services to Haridwar, Dehradun and key rural routes, including Dharamghar and Pangla, are also affected, causing inconvenience for passengers.

An Energy Corporation inspection team detected suspected power theft at around 30 homes in Purampur village on Monday. The operation, led by an executive engineer, also found consumers continuing to use electricity illegally after their connections had been disconnected over unpaid bills. Officials recorded the cases on video during the campaign.
Nainital
6 engineers from the Jal Sansthan and Jal Nigam have been suspended after contaminated drinking water in Nainital’s Jyolikot area was linked to jaundice and diarrhoea. More than 400 people fell ill and 2 died, prompting protests, High Court scrutiny and corrective measures including water testing, chlorination and tanker supplies.

Reena, daughter of motor mechanic Rajkumar from Kharawar village in Haryana’s Rohtak district, has completed a PhD in Chemistry at IIT Roorkee. Educated initially at a government school, she became the most highly educated daughter in her family, which attended her convocation and celebrated the achievement.

Doiwala Sugar Mill is working towards opening its new sugarcane crushing season in the first half of November, executive director Ajayveer Singh said on Monday. Haridwar police have arrested a 36-year-old woman and her husband in connection with the killing of Gopal Kumar, 50, whose body was found near Sarvanand Ghat. Police allege the couple and 2 others carried out the attack after inviting him to the city, then discarded his mobile phone and wallet in the Ganga.

An elephant herd damaged 3 residential buildings, a solar streetlight and 2 mango trees at Haldoon Tok in Jaurasi Talli village, Kotdwar. Villagers have sought compensation, stronger forest patrols and faster construction of barriers and solar fencing after the incident created fear in the area.
