Srinagar Garhwal recorded a one-hour ground-level ozone concentration above 880 micrograms per cubic metre on 19 December 2025, according to monitoring data from Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University. Scientists have linked the unusual rise, initially, to forest fires, traffic and valley conditions that can trap pollution.
