Ramnagar’s long-delayed sewerage project is set to advance after approval for its first phase was granted at a cost of ₹42 crore. Construction is expected to begin after the tender process is completed.

The first phase will cover wards one–6 of the town. Under the plan, a sewer network will be developed in stages across different parts of Ramnagar, where the sewerage scheme has remained incomplete for several decades.

The Jal Nigam prepared a 3-phase proposal last year and submitted it to the government. Approval has now been given for the first phase, which includes sewer-related works costing ₹42 crore.

Homes and pipeline network

The project aims to provide sewer connections to around 6040 homes in the 6 wards. Pipelines ranging from 150 to 600 millimetres will be laid to collect wastewater and sewage from households and connect it to the designated network.

The planned network is intended to create a formal system for collecting sewage from homes. It is also expected to help prevent wastewater from being discharged in the open, although the project’s construction is still dependent on completion of the tender process.

Sewage treatment at bypass plant

Sewage collected from wards one–6 will be carried through pipelines to the Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) located near the bypass bridge. The plant will treat the wastewater and support proper sewage disposal for the areas included in the first phase.

The project therefore combines household connections, underground pipeline construction and treatment of the collected sewage. Further parts of Ramnagar’s planned sewer network are covered under the wider 3-phase proposal, but the approved work currently concerns the first phase.

Pallavi Chaudhary, executive engineer with the Jal Nigam, said ₹42 crore had been approved for the first phase. She added that work would begin soon after the tender process was completed.

Conclusion

The approved first phase will bring sewer connections to around 6040 homes in Ramnagar’s wards one–6. The next confirmed step is completion of the tender process, after which construction is expected to start.
