Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami inaugurated Government College Barnigad during a public service camp in Barnigad (Kunwa), in the Purola assembly constituency of Uttarkashi district. He also laid the foundation stones for and inaugurated 38 development works worth about ₹217 crore.
The projects include 30 works whose foundation stones were laid and 8 that were inaugurated. Dhami said the works would strengthen infrastructure in the region and improve the prospects for tourism, employment and self-employment.
The event was organised under the Seva Sankalp campaign as part of the Seva Setu public service initiative at Government Inter College Barnigad. Officials from different departments set up stalls at the camp, where the chief minister reviewed the services being provided and sought information about the progress of welfare schemes.
Beneficiaries received cheques and equipment during the programme. Dhami said the purpose of taking government services to the public was to help residents resolve issues without repeatedly travelling to tehsil and district headquarters.
College, road and sports announcements
Alongside the launch of Government College Barnigad, Dhami announced that work on its permanent building and campus would begin soon. He said land for the college had already been made available.
He also announced a mini stadium at Raja Raghunath Devdokri and construction of a motor road from Thala Chowk in Barnigad to Government Inter College Barnigad. The chief minister further announced the upgradation of Government College Barkot and Government College Chinyalisaur.
Dhami said the bridge and road project from Dada Gaon Chhani to Tatao, announced earlier, would be completed soon. He linked better road connectivity and other infrastructure with stronger tourism activity and new opportunities for local young people.
The new college, he said, would give students in the area better access to higher education. The permanent campus is expected to provide the institution with a dedicated facility once construction begins.
Welfare delivery and government priorities
Dhami said the state government’s objective was not only to frame schemes but also to ensure that their benefits reached people living at the farthest point from the administration. He described the Seva Setu campaign as an effort to address public concerns directly in communities.
He said more than 3 lakh 10 thousand women in Uttarakhand had become Lakhpati Didis. Women linked to self-help groups are strengthening their incomes through tailoring, weaving, handloom work, handicrafts and local products, according to the chief minister.
He also referred to the Mukhyamantri Mahalakshmi Yojana, the Mukhyamantri Ekal Mahila Swarojgar Yojana and 30 percent horizontal reservation for women in government services as measures aimed at women’s empowerment.
The chief minister said the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana had helped women get relief from kitchen smoke, while the Jal Jeevan Mission had advanced the effort to provide clean drinking water to households.
Statewide figures cited at the event
Dhami said more than 59 lakh pilgrims had visited Uttarakhand during this year’s Char Dham Yatra. He said pilgrim safety, easier travel and better arrangements remained priorities for the state government.
He also said Uttarakhand had become the first state in independent India to implement a Uniform Civil Code. According to his remarks, the state has also implemented a strict land law, an anti-conversion law and an anti-riot law.
The chief minister said action against illegal encroachments had freed more than 13 thousand acres of land. He added that a strict anti-copying law had been introduced to protect young people’s futures and improve transparency in recruitment.
More than 35 thousand young people, he said, had received government jobs through transparent recruitment processes during the past 5 years.
Conclusion
The Barnigad programme combined the launch of a government college with infrastructure announcements and delivery of welfare services. The next stated steps include beginning work on the college’s permanent campus and advancing the announced road, bridge and sports facilities.
