Nainital experienced about half an hour of intense rain on Thursday afternoon after a cloudy morning. The downpour slowed activity in the city and disrupted 2 state roads, one district road and 12 rural routes. Earthmoving machines were deployed to help reopen the affected roads, while temperatures remained between 19°C and 24°C.

Police in Khatima’s Satrhamil Majhola area arrested Joga Singh after his wife alleged repeated assaults on her and their children while he was intoxicated. She also complained of an alleged lathi-and-stick attack on 5 September. Police said Singh allegedly became violent again at the outand was being produced before court.

Aniket died after the scooter he was riding with his mother lost balance near Chhiddarwala on the Dehradun–Haridwar highway. Police are collecting information after a video showing a young man being beaten with a stick near the IG office in Nainital’s Mallital area circulated widely online. The reported confrontation followed a dispute involving the youth and a vehicle driver late on Sunday night, but officials have not yet established the full sequence of events.
