Uttarakhand recorded 25 additional H1N1 infections after 115 samples were tested, taking the reported total to 408. Dehradun accounted for 11 of the new cases. Health teams also identified 5 dengue patients and surveyed 11,872 homes as officials stepped up disease-control measures across the city.

The Uttarakhand government has released ₹345.62 lakh as the first instalment for 2 flood protection schemes in Khatima. The projects cover villages along the Jagbudha river near the India-Nepal border and 7 villages in the Khatima development block, where homes face flooding from rivers and drains during the monsoon.

A women’s pink toilet in Khatima has reportedly remained closed since its inauguration in March 2025, despite being built with around ₹7.50 lakh from CSR funds. The municipality, responsible for its operation, has cited staff shortages, water difficulties and other reasons while saying preparations are underway to open the facility.

Student union elections for the 2026-27 academic session will be held at Soban Singh Jeena University, Sri Dev Suman University and Kumaun University on 29 September. The student federation election will follow on 1 October, with each university now expected to begin preparations and outline the next steps.

Students at Government Inter College Nalaikhal in Pauri Garhwal’s Kaljikhal development block have been moved from a badly damaged classroom after debris began falling from the ceiling and cracks appeared in the walls. A village head has urged the Education Department to act, saying the issue had previously been raised under the District Plan.

Gangnahar police have arrested a young tenant accused of snatching a gold chain from elderly resident Anita Gupta in Roorkee’s Hanuman Colony. Police said the chain and pendant were recovered from his room after the complaint, and the accused was sent to jail in connection with the case.

Uttarakhand’s excise department, assisted by the forest department in Khatima, dismantled 5 illegal liquor furnaces during raids in forest areas of Sitarganj and Khatima. Teams destroyed about 3600 kilograms of fermented wash, seized 190 litres of raw liquor and arrested 2 people in separate cases.
Nainital
Nainital experienced about half an hour of intense rain on Thursday afternoon after a cloudy morning. The downpour slowed activity in the city and disrupted 2 state roads, one district road and 12 rural routes. Earthmoving machines were deployed to help reopen the affected roads, while temperatures remained between 19°C and 24°C.

Khatima will conduct sporting events under the Khel Mahakumbh programme from 13 to 19 September. The schedule includes athletics, kho-kho, kabaddi and murga jhapat, with competitions planned at 7 venues, including Van Chetna Stadium Chakarpur and schools in Khatima.
