Kharakhet’s 1930 salt protest: How Dehradun villagers defied British rule beside the Noon River
On 20 April 1930, freedom fighters at Kharakhet near Dehradun produced salt from the mildly saline Noon River and challenged British control over salt. The material was later auctioned near the city court, turning a local act of defiance into a public protest remembered through a memorial, archival records and annual commemorations.
