Nainital
A geological assessment using Sentinel-1A satellite observations from 2017 to 2024 has identified widespread ground movement around Nainital. The study places 17.08 square kilometres, or 24.9% of the assessed area, in the high-risk category and links the danger to unstable geology, heavy rainfall and uncontrolled construction.

Rishikesh Municipal Corporation conducted an enforcement drive against encroachment and littering across 4 busy roads. The team issued challans to 21 people and imposed a combined fine of 5,700 rupees. The operation was carried out under directions from Municipal Commissioner Vijay Nath Shukla, with sanitation officials participating.

The Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission has announced 200 scaler vacancies in the Forest Development Corporation. Online applications will open on 22 September, while the selection process will begin with a physical standards and efficiency test proposed from 19 November. Eligible applicants must have studied science or mathematics in Class 12.
Haridwar
A 32-year-old man from Pune was found hanging inside a hotel room in Bahadrabad after staff alerted police when he did not respond. Officers identified him through an Aadhaar card and sent the body to the district hospital for -mortem examination. Police have described the case as suicide while investigating the reason.
Pithoragarh
Traffic on the All Weather Road between Pithoragarh and Ghat will remain closed from 6 pm to 6 am each day until conditions improve. The administration cited continuing boulder and debris falls near Ghat and Munna Band, including above HP Band, and warned that travel could endanger commuters and vehicles.
Dehradun
Heavy rain caused waterlogging in parts of Dehradun on Thursday morning, while falling rocks and debris disrupted routes in Pithoragarh. The weather department has forecast light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Dehradun and hill districts, with a thunderstorm alert issued for 17 September and no warning from 18 September.
Uttarkashi
Uttarkashi is preparing to widen protected cultivation through cluster-based polyhouses measuring 50 to 500 square metres. The initiative under NABARD’s RIDF scheme will support vegetable and flower cultivation, while 114 farmers from Bhatwari and the Ganga Valley have received training in production, crop management and -harvest handling.

The Regional Employment Office will hold a one-day recruitment fair at Ranikhet College on 22 September. Teachers allege that eligible school vacancies disappeared from the portal and that senior applicants in special categories were overlooked. They have now submitted a second reminder seeking a prompt, impartial resolution.
Kashipur
A 58-year-old resident of Judka near Kashipur died at a local government hospital after suffering severe head pain following a train accident near Kurukshetra. Dalchand had received treatment in Chandigarh and returned home after being discharged. Police completed mortem before handing his body to the family.
